Get involved in our plastic collection! - PLASTIQUE By Siân

Get involved in our plastic collection!

In recent years, the issue of plastic pollution has become a growing concern worldwide. As a designer who specialises in creating upcycled artwork and jewellery from waste plastic, we have been actively involved in finding ways to reduce plastic waste in our community.

There are a few ways that we collect the materials to use within our designs. The power of social media is incredible when we are looking for large amounts of certain colours or types of plastic. After receiving responses a plastic roundup door to door collection service is carried out. We specifically look for plastics that have interesting colours, textures, and patterns that can be used to create unique pieces of art and jewellery.

To make the process even more accessible, we also use the app Olio to request and search for materials that we can use to create with. The app is a great platform for finding people in your local area who have items they want to donate. It's easy to use and a great way to connect with like-minded people who are passionate about reducing waste.

As our business ebbs and flows from season to season, in the quiet down times we volunteer with a local litter picking group in our local community. This is key after an outdoor community event or festival has taken place.

If you're interested in getting involved in collecting waste plastic with us, there are a few things you can do. you can join our newsletter where we will provide details of dates and times for local litter collections, you will also be able to find out more on what specific plastics we are currently in search of and then you can start collecting plastic waste on your own and donate it to me. we offer a 10% off on our store for any donations received.

By working together, we can make a significant impact on the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills and our oceans. So let's come together and make a difference, one piece of plastic at a time!
