LADY ON A MISSION - PLASTIQUE By Siân

LADY ON A MISSION

My journey towards building a sustainable future all started in secondary school Design and Technology in 2008 when I focused on sustainable design for my brief. Throughout university, I continued to work on projects that aimed to reduce waste and upcycled various items into abstract sculptures.

In 2014, I started my first business, Siân Dorman Creations, which creates wearable art pieces and costumes for independent performers and musicians, amongst other creatives. Although I always had a passion for jewellery designing, it wasn't until I gained the confidence through the successes of the London Made Me program in October 2022 where I started this second business as my latest designs were well received.

As I reflect on my journey, it's clear that my passion for sustainability has been a driving force from a young age. It all started back in 2008 when I picked the topic of sustainable design for my secondary school Design and Technology brief (Shout out to my teachers Ross & Jenni McGill at the time). From that moment, I was hooked.

Throughout university, I dedicated all of my projects to the reduction of various items, including clothing, everyday objects, and of course, plastics. I upcycled these items into abstract sculptural pieces of art, exploring new ways to breathe life into what was once considered waste.

In 2014, I started my first business, Sian Dorman Creations, where I created sculptural wearable art body pieces and costumes for other independent creatives. I had always been interested in jewellery making, but it wasn't until I gained the confidence to start my second business through the successes of the London Made Me program in October 2022 where I started this second business as my latest designs were well received since then I have started to explore the possibilities of all sorts of sustainable jewellery.

My journey has had its ups and downs, but my determination to build a sustainable future has never wavered. Through collaborations, partnerships, and community events, I'm proud to be on a mission to make a positive impact on our planet.
