The London Made Me Retail Training Programme: A Transformative Experience
I was lucky enough to be one of the x14 creatives to participate in the pilot London Made Me retail training programme, and I can confidently say it was a transformative experience. As an independent designer and entrepreneur, I was seeking to expand my knowledge of retail and marketing, and learn about more my target audience. The programme taught me about which of my products were more successful in a physical shop environment, and gave me a true insight into how customers interact with my product in a shop scene, rather than at a market stall with me awkwardly standing in front of them...therefore giving me classic English politeness regardless of their true opinions.

I learnt SO MUCH. Throughout the programme, I was provided with invaluable insights into the world of retail, including visual merchandising, marketing strategies, and customer engagement. I was able to learn from some of the most experienced and knowledgeable professionals, and their expertise were truly enlightening.
However, the most exciting aspect of the programme was the opportunity to sell my products in a pop-up shop on Regent Street, one of the busiest shopping areas in London. It was an exhilarating experience to see my designs displayed in this beautiful retail space.
I had projected a certain amount of sales for the duration of the pop-up shop, but to my surprise, I exceeded my expectations three-fold. The training programme had equipped me with the skills and confidence to engage with customers and effectively market my products, resulting in greater sales and exposure for my brand.
In addition to the financial success, I made numerous friends and potential collaborators through the programme. It was incredible to be surrounded by such a supportive and diverse community of designers, entrepreneurs, and mentors.
One of the highlights of the programme was meeting Deputy Mayor of London, Justine Simons, who spoke to us about the importance of supporting independent businesses and promoting creativity in the city. It was inspiring to see such a high-ranking official acknowledge and appreciate the work we were doing.
Another rewarding aspect of the programme was facilitating workshops for visitors to the popup shop. I was able to share my knowledge and skills with others, and see first-hand the impact my work was having on the community.
Overall, the London Made Me retail training programme was a truly transformative experience. It provided me with invaluable knowledge, skills, and opportunities, and has had a significant impact on my business and personal growth. I would highly recommend this programme to any aspiring entrepreneur or designer looking to expand their horizons and reach their full potential.
